The echidna sat on the desk for five years, gathering dust and fingernail shavings - spat out from the mouth of the caged man, John. He was accepted in the workplace, yet within, everything stood still. At times, he said he felt as though he understood Lord Kelvin; the formula; the molecules; the chase for equilibrium in everyday life. I last saw him at Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok, deep in the crowd, staring towards the golden roof. It made for a busy, colourful photo, so I captured the scene with my Canon 7 Rangefinder. I could have sworn he was still there in the crowd, as I pressed down on the shutter, however he never reappeared. Two days later, I had the film developed – there was no John, just an extremely peculiar light flare within the lower part of the golden roof…
